NEW YORK CITY AREA CANDIDATES

It was several years ago that residents of New York City discovered that leaving New York City to study Upstate has many advantages. The Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage limits it's enrollment to around 50 students per program. By limiting enrollment we provide a high staff-to-student ratio with more personalized attention and education.

Also, the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage offers one of the states only full time 1,000 hour programs which can be completed in six-months. This means you will be earning money sooner than your counterparts who study locally. Combine this with the reasonable apartment rates and it is no surprise students are choosing to study at the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage.

Boyce Brawly who chose to study at OSTM completed the program in six-months and returned to the city to practice. He works summers in the Hamptons and winters in South Beach, Florida!

Although we don't yet have dormitory facilities, our admissions department can aid you in finding nearby housing. Feel free to contact the admissions department of our Syracuse or Rochester campus for additional information, or to schedule a tour.

OUT-OF-STATE-CANDIDATES

New York and Nebraska are the only two states that offer 1,000 hour programs. The national average is 500 hours of education which means OSTM graduates start their massage career with a substantial educational advantage, and have little difficulty securing out-of-state employment. Graduates of the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage are eligible to sit for the National Exam. Because laws governing the practice of massage outside of New York State vary, graduates should contact the local jurisdiction in which they intend to practice.

SCHOLARSHIPS

The Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage offers several scholarship opportunities to qualified candidates. Scholarship awards are considered on need, previous academic history (the ability to successfully complete the program), and fulfillment of the specific purpose for which the award was intended. All awards are subject to the availability of funds, and all scholarships may not be awarded every program. A maximum of two scholarships are awarded per student over the course of their educational program.

To be considered for a scholarship award applicants must 1.) Have a completed application for admission to the school on file. 2.) Provide financial records, biographical essay, and related documents to the admissions department prior to the scholarship deadline. 3.) Must have earned a B average in High School (or college) and/or finished in the top half of their High School class.

Scholarship applicants will be notified prior to the start of classes. Scholarships recipients will be notified prior to the beginning of the program to which they have applied (twice a year), and evening program (approximately every 9 months).

Scholarships will be awarded at the halfway point of the program, and are contingent on the student maintaining a passing average of 75% or better in all subjects. Because scholarships are awarded at the midway point of the program and are contingent on academic performance - all students must have funding in place prior to entering the program.

  • Catherine E. “Katy” Stefhon - Allen Memorial Scholarship

The Katy Stefhon-Allen scholarship seeks to attract learners who 1.) Have been out of school for some time and are seeking to continue life-long learning or 2.) Candidates who currently hold a license in the field of health or beautification, including but not limited too: nursing, chiropractic, cosmetology, or esthetician, and are seeking to earn a license in massage therapy.

The Katy Stefhon-Allen scholarship offers an award up to $2,000.

The Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage would like to honor the memory of Marc with the creation of a scholarship up to $2,000.

The Marc Till scholarship seeks to add diversity to the profession of massage by attracting to the program candidates of Asian descent or candidates that have demonstrated an interest in Eastern techniques, or energy work.
